KetoRunningMama

Hi, All.

I originally had named this blog after the name that my family had dubbed itself when I was going through the process of diagnosis, Team Moore.  Team Moore has meant a lot to me.  Team Moore expanded itself to be many people outside of my immediate family...and way outside even my extended family.  Team Moore became and ebbed and flowed....and they have been the people who convinced me that my grit would eventually take over, I would remember who I was....and MS would not overtake me.  I could not have reclaimed my health, revamped how I eat, ran two marathons, and turned this curse into a blessing without Team Moore.  Because of this...I wanted to name my blog "Team Moore" after it.

After further consideration, however, I decided that I was leaving out too much information about what it is that I want to write about.  I also felt like the content that I originally wanted to focus on....living a dairy-free, clean-eating, ketogenic lifestyle...did not tell enough of my wellness journey.  Not only do I live this nutritional lifestyle, but I have run marathons while eating this low-carb lifestyle.  When I set out to run my second marathon, while trying to stay on the ketogenic diet, I found very little information on the web about it.  RUNNERS CARB UP!  The lack of information out there really shook my confidence.   Let's get serious....I had NEVER had a conversation with another runner about running long distances without carbing up!  The typical runner simply does not do that.  We have stations passing out carb gels along the way.  When you cross the finish line, you are immediately given bagels and bananas before you have even caught your breath.  The night before a big race is almost always kicked off with a pasta dinner for all the runners.  I have seen T-shirts that say "I run for beer!"

Running marathons since my diagnosis of MS has been a HUGE part of my wellness plan.  I attribute so much of my mental health, spiritual well-being, and physical health to the act of lacing up my shoes for a good, long, challenging run...that to leave that out of my blog would be silly.  Running a marathon while eating low-carb, high-fat made me a believer.  If I could run a marathon with few carbs...without eating other than drinking coconut oil in my water the entire run....AND beat my time from my previous marathon by 27 minutes without crashing at all....then keto MUST be the lifestyle for me.

The part of "Team Moore" that I am keeping in my blog?....Mama.  I cannot talk about what I do to fight MS....food or exercise...without writing about my children.  I have three beautiful young children, ages 9, 8, and 4.  Without them, I never would have had the guts to start running marathons when everyone else told me I should be going easy on my body.  I never would have gotten so sick of being sick and not being there for them that I would have decided to fight through good nutrition and running frieking marathons!  I mean, who does that?  Who gets diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and decides to run marathons.  Who decides to go against the grain (literally) and run a marathon on a low carb diet?  This mother does.  And I can't even take the credit.  It is all for my love of my kids.  So much of what I do is my way of finding a "cure" so that they will not have to suffer the way that I have if they do have a health struggle.  If they become ill, they will remember their mom strapping on her shoes to run crazy distances....after spending time making a nutritious, clean meal for everyone in the family. They will remember...and they will not be so afraid.  They will already be wearing the armor that I had to make up for myself as I could.

If you are a mom or a dad....you get it.  You do whatever you have to do to give your kids a good life.  If you are a parent who is struggling to reclaim your health, wants to explore creative ways to do it, or if you are smarter than I was...and you are preventing health problems for you and your family, welcome to KetoRunningMama.  If you are not about perfection, but are about getting a little bit better every single day, welcome to KetoRunningMama.  If you want to compliment your "sickcare" with true care for your health, welcome to KetoRunningMama.  If you want to set an example for your children, showing them that your health is in your own hands, welcome to KetoRunningMama.  If you don't have children...and are being ravaged by your own body due to autoimmunity....and you want to find a different way....welcome to KetoRunningMama.

Let's fight....all the while remembering who our team is.  Mine is Team Moore.  I hope that you will join us and be a part of us.  I can tell you that Team Moore is incredibly supportive.  We need you on our team.
